Dr. Sokrates Ioannou is the Chair of the Civil Engineering Technology Program at the Higher Colleges of Technology.

With almost two decades of expertise spanning on low-carbon cement-based technologies, sustainable binders, and near-zero CO2 materials, he has developed formulations based on calcium sulfoaluminate cements, supersulfated cements, recycled aggregates, and geopolymer-based concretes.

Dr. Sokrates Ioannou has been leading several multimillion-pound R&D projects in the UAE, Oman, UK, and Cyprus, securing high-budget funding for the last 13 years.

Prior to his research career, he worked as a Project Manager in Cyprus and UK within several construction projects, including high-rise projects, for a period of 8 years.

Dr. Sokrates Ioannou holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Bath UK, and a first-class Masters in Structural Engineering from City University London UK.

His previous work has been published in numerous international top-tier journals, such as Cement and Concrete Research, Construction and Building Materials, Cement and Concrete Composites.

As a Chartered Engineer and prolific author of numerous high-impact publications, Dr. Sokrates Ioannou’s visionary work in low-carbon technologies allows him to redefine durability and sustainability in infrastructure through developing innovative applied solutions to the industries worldwide.

Dr. Sokrates Ioannou currently serves as an Editorial Board member in the Emirati Journal of Civil Engineering and Applications, as well as a reviewer in prestigious international journals.
