Creating cities that work: the blueprint for urban livability

17 Jun 2025
Breakout Stage

Creating cities that support human wellbeing while minimising environmental impact has become crucial for our collective future. The foundation of liveability rests on accessibility and connectivity. Cities thrive when residents can easily access employment, education, healthcare, and recreation without excessive reliance on private vehicles. This requires robust public transportation networks, walkable neighbourhoods, and cycling infrastructure that makes daily life convenient and sustainable. Green infrastructure plays an equally vital role. Parks, urban forests, and green corridors not only improve air quality and reduce urban heat islands but also provide essential spaces for community gathering and mental health. Economic opportunity and housing affordability remain central challenges. Liveable cities must balance growth with inclusion, ensuring diverse communities can afford to live, work, and participate in urban life. This requires thoughtful zoning, mixed-income housing policies, and support for local businesses.
