Presentation: From access to belonging – DCD’s vision for inclusive cities
This session introduces two flagship initiatives led by the Department of Community Development: the Abu Dhabi Excellence Award for People of Determination Inclusion (Damj Award) and the People of Determination & Elderly Inclusive City Framework. Both initiatives reflect Abu Dhabi’s commitment to inclusive, people-centred infrastructure and sustainable social development.
The Damj Award, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is the region’s first excellence award recognizing entities across government, private, and third sectors for outstanding achievements in accessibility, inclusive services, and employment. It also acts as a key incentive mechanism within the broader Disability Friendly City Framework, developed through the Inclusive City project.
The Disability Friendly City Framework positions Abu Dhabi as a global pioneer in urban inclusion by embedding accessibility and universal design across infrastructure, mobility, public spaces, services, and digital ecosystems.
Their presence at ADIS 2025 reinforces the summit's theme of future-ready, integrated infrastructure and highlights Abu Dhabi’s leadership in building smart, inclusive cities that serve all members of society especially People of Determination and Elderly.
Through this interactive workshop, participants will explore policy innovations and cross-sector strategies that drive inclusive urban development, while contributing their insights to shape the future of accessible infrastructure both locally and globally.
